Hans Bodo Lüngen

Steel Institute VDEh, Germany

Dr. Hans Bodo Lüngen was born in 1955 in Germany.


After the study of metallurgy at Technical University Aachen, Germany, he started his professional work on 1 March 1985 at Steel Institute VDEh, Düsseldorf, Germany, in the metallurgy department. He finished his Dr.-Ing. thesis in the field of iron ore sintering in the year 1990.


He was for many years responsible for the ironmaking department. In April 2008 he was appointed director technology and in November 2019 Executive Member of the Managing Board of Steel Institute VDEh.


Hans Bodo Lüngen had and still has activities in European Committees and in expert groups within the European research work since 1985.


He currently has more than 300 technical publications in the field of iron and steelmaking including environmental and CO2 mitigation aspects.


In 2015 he and his co-authors received the best paper award by the AIST Environmental Technology Committee for the paper entitled “Steel´s Contrubution for a Low-Carbon Europe 2050”.


In 2021 he received the Thomas L. Joseph Award of the AIST Ironmaking Technical Committee.
